Use this pull-down menu to handle all of your Crosstik file needs. To select this menu, either press [Alt]+[F], or use the mouse and click on the word "File."
File Menu: New
Use this menu option to create a new crosstik puzzle. You may use this option by selecting it from the File menu, or by pressing [F2].
File Menu: Open
Use this menu option to open an existing crosstik puzzle. You may use this option by selecting it from the File menu, or by pressing [F4]. ;
NOTE: You must register this program to use this option.
File Menu: Save
Use this menu option when you wish to save your current crosstik puzzle on to a disk. If the puzzle you are working on does not have a file name, then you will be asked to enter one. You may use this option by selecting it from the File menu, or by pressing [F5]. ;
NOTE: You must register this program to use this option.
File Menu: Save As
Use this menu option when you wish to save your current crosstik puzzle under a different name, or when your current puzzle has no name. ;
NOTE: You must register this program to use this option.
File Menu: Print
This option will allow you to print-out your current puzzle to a printer or other device. You may use this option by selecting it from the File menu, or by pressing [F7]. ;
NOTE: You must have an active puzzle to use this option.
File Menu: Exit
Use this menu option when you wish to exit the Crosstik program. You may use this option by selecting it from the File menu, or by pressing [F3].
The Usage Menu
This pull-down menu contains features that will assist you in using the Crosstik program. To select this menu, either press [Alt]+[U], or use the mouse and click on the word "Usage."
Usage Menu: Setup
This option allows you to setup the Quote and Clue data (i.e. tell the Crosstik program how words and letters correspond). You may use this option by selecting it from the Usage menu, or by pressing [Alt]+[S]. ;
NOTE: You must have an active puzzle to use this option.
Usage Menu: Combine
This option allows you to combine the first letter in each clue word to form the actual acrostic. You may use this option by selecting it from the Usage menu, or by pressing [Alt]+[C]. ;
NOTE: You must have an active puzzle to use this option.
Usage Menu: Refresh Screen
This option allows you to clear the screen and redraw it. This may be helpful if you see some screen "garbage." You may use this option by selecting it from the Usage menu, or by pressing [Alt]+[R]. ;

Usage Menu: Next Window
This option allows you to switch between the Quote and Clue windows. You may use this option by selecting it from the Usage menu, or by pressing [Tab]. ;
NOTE: You must have an active puzzle to use this option.
Usage Menu: Zoom
This option allows you to "zoom in," or "maximize" the current window. You may use this option by selecting it from the Usage menu, or by pressing [Alt]+[Z]. (If you have a mouse, you may also zoom in on the window by clicking once on the box with the arrow.) Repeating the action will "zoom out," or "restore" the window to its previous size. ;

Usage Menu: Window Options
This option allows you to change the appearance of the Quote and Clue windows. You may use this option by selecting it from the Usage menu, or by pressing [Alt]+[O]. ;

The Info Menu
This pull-down menu contains selections that will provide information while using the Crosstik program. To select this menu, either press [Alt]+[I], or use the mouse and click on the word "Info."
Info Menu: What
Use this item to find out more on what the Crosstik program is expecting at any given moment. You may use this option by selecting it from the Info menu, or by pressing [F1].
Info Menu: How
This item will help you to find out how to do certain things. You may use this option by selecting it from the Info menu, or by pressing [Shift]+[F1].
Info Menu: About
This item will display information on the current version of the Crosstik program that you are using. You may use this option by selecting from the Info menu.
About Box
This dialog box shows program version and authorship information. Click on [OK] or press the [Esc] key to close it.
Save Dialog
This dialog box allows you to save your current Crosstik puzzle to a file. The following controls are present in this box:
"File Names" entry box: Use this box to type in the name of the file. Clicking on the down arrow gives you a list of other filenames you have already used. I
"Files" list box: This box lists all files in the current directory, as specified by a file mask. That is, if you type in "*.*" in the File Names box, then all files will be listed; if you type "*.CRS" in that same box, then only those files ending in ".CRS" will be listed. Note that all subdirectories are always listed.
File Info box: This box, located below the "Files" list box, displays useful information about the currently selected file.
Setup Dialog
Use this dialog box to enter the quote and clue data. Enter the quote data by typing in the length of each quote word. Similarly, enter the clue data by typing in the box number of each letter in each clue word (box numbers may be separated by a space or '-'). n
If an error is made, you will be informed where the error is. You must correct the error before proceeding.
Combine Dialog
This dialog box combines the first letter in each clue word to form the acrostic for this puzzle.
Window Options Dialog
This dialog box allows you to change the way the quote and clue windows look. You may enable or disable the highlight feature and change the cursor style.
Print Dialog
This dialog box allows you to specify a target device to print the current Crosstik puzzle. You must use one of the following devices: LPT1, LPT2, COM1, or COM2. The default is LPT1.
Open Dialog
This dialog box is used to open a previously started Crosstik puzzle. The following controls are present:

Desktop
The desktop is the base part of the system. You may select an item from one of the menus or work with a puzzle if one has been started. Help is available at any time by pressing [F1]. At the bottom of the screen is a status line that will indicate the appropriate actions to take.
